Habitat Build; No Boys Allowed

Ladies, pick up those hammers! May 1-9 is National Women Build Week. Lowe's in partnership with Habitat for Humanity and Theatre Under the Stars kicked off the event Thursday by bringing together dozens of women to build.

Home walls were constructed in the parking lot of a Houston-area Lowe's by a team of nearly all women, including Women Build spokesperson and gospel singer Yolanda Adams. The handful of men in attendance brought a bit of star power as well. Shawn Hamilton hammered nails during the day, Thursday night he was back to his job of actor in the play 'Little House on the Prairie'.

Women Build is a program that empowers and trains women to pick up their hammers to help put an end to poverty housing in America.

YOLANDA ADAMS WINS SIXTH NAACP IMAGE AWARD

02.28.06

Atlantic recording artist Yolanda Adams was among the winners at last weekend's NAACP Image Awards ceremonies in Los Angeles. The acclaimed singer received the 'Outstanding Gospel Artist - Traditional or Contemporary' trophy for her 2005 album, DAY BY DAY, marking the sixth time she has been honored with an Image Award. The 37th NAACP Image Awards, presented to those who strive for the portrayal of positive images and meaningful opportunities for African-Americans in motion pictures, television, literature and recording, will air Friday, March 3rd at 8pm EST on FOX (check local listings).

The NAACP Image Award follows Adams's recent success at the 2006 Grammy Awards. The evening saw the First Lady of Gospel taking home two Grammy trophies for the DAY BY DAY track, 'Be Blessed' - 'Best Gospel Performance' and 'Best Gospel Song.'

DAY BY DAY has proven to be one of Adams's most popular collections to date. Along with last year's smash 'Be Blessed,' the album has yielded the multi-format hit singles, 'Someone Watching Over You' and 'Victory' (currently a top ten favorite at Gospel radio). Her new single, 'This Too Shall Pass,' has just arrived at both Gospel and Urban AC outlets nationwide.

Featuring production by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Kirk Franklin, Shep Crawford, 'Big' Jim Wright, and Gordon Chambers & Barry Eastmond, DAY BY DAY marks Adams?s first new album in more than four years. Featuring guest appearances by friends Donnie McClurkin, Mary Mary, and Franklin, the collection serves as a showcase for Adams?s joyous vocals and inspirational message.

Adams has also scheduled a pair of upcoming concert dates, one on each coast. On April 8th, she will perform two shows at New York City's BB King Blues Club and Grill, followed by an April 14th appearance at Heaven Bound Ministries in Stockton, California.

YOLANDA ADAMS BREAKS BEW GROUND WITH TOUR

In a pioneering move, Grammy-award winning singer Yolanda Adams will feature special musical guests from various genres on her forthcoming 'Yolanda Today' tour. Eddie Levert, Chaka Khan, Kirk Whalum and Mary Mary are among those slated to join Adams on the five-week theater tour that kicks off on Oct. 4 (in her hometown of Houston, TX) to support DAY BY DAY the singer's first album in four years. Adams believes the inclusion of mainstream music guests on 'Yolanda Today' continues a mission that she began long ago. 'We've been trying for years to bridge the gap between what people think are churched and non-churched people. You'd be so surprised how many folks came from the church that are singing pop and R&B,' explains Adams. 'The people that we are having on our tour all came from the church. Most people of faith don't realize that these are also people of faith!'

The new album DAY BY DAY is being released on Aug. 30 and features production by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Kirk Franklin, Shep Crawford, 'Big' Jim Wright and Gordon Chambers & Barry Eastmond. The disk also has guest appearances by Donnie McClurkin, Mary Mary and Franklin. Visitwww.alwe.com for complete tour dates.
